character group. Undergraduate
appearance
height. 5ft8
weight. 130lbs
appearance. Samantha stands an honest 5ft8 in close height with the rest of her family, she has a tall slender frame that resembles that of a bean pole. She is gifted with good proportions though, long rides with a balanced torso helped make her the equitation rider she is. She is thin, though not dangerously. Her bone structure is small though surprisingly strong as she has yet to break a bone. As fantastic as being tall and skinny is the girl does wish she had been given some more womanly curves but then again she pulls off that high waist and cropped top look wonderfully. No matter the case she looks elegant on a horse and in most things she wears. Long legs are lean and muscular thanks to regular gym visits and riding, though Sami is the kind of girl who can eat pretty much anything she wants. Her face is sweet, slightly round and pretty. She isn’t exactly model symmetrical but Samantha does have nice bone structure and thanks to three years of braces a killer smile. Her eyes are a sweet deep brown that sometimes seem to grow some green, no matter the case they are her father’s as is the brown hair that grows naturally straight on her head. Well straight most of the time, it is thick and unruly and usually pulled back away from her face. She does tend to have a more pale complextion that burns easily, her skin is clear with the exception of freckles in an excess amount of sun. Samantha is usually found around the barn in a pair of jods and polo shirt or sweater, she likes to ride in jeans every now and then but her usual attire is jods, tall boots and a polo shirt. She dresses the part and is quite proper in what she wears, if someone were to describe her fashion sense it might be along the lines of chic and smart. She isn’t above wearing a pair of jeans and a shirt but most of her clothes are designer brands and well pressed. She is a fan of collared shirts and dark jeans and pants, her hair tends to be worn straight and long or pulled back and out of her face. She doesn’t spend hours in front of the mirror in the morning and usually is up and dressed in under half an hour – minimal make-up is part of her day to day and if she is just off to school her clothes are pre planned in her head and her books piled by the door waiting and the most she usually puts on her face is some concelor under her eyes to hide the persistent bags and some mascara for her stubby lashes - with a touch of blush for her complextion of course. . She leads an organized life most of the time and it reflects in her personal grooming skills and styling habits.

personality. Samantha is an interesting young adult, much more layered and complex than she is willing to admit or let anyone see the girl usually comes across as the average horse focused, slightly to competitive for her own good freshman at university. Samantha upon first glance is pretty average, slightly naive and over trusting sometimes she might strike you as shy and maybe even a little awkward. She is an introverted person, friendly but very personable and private. Sami isn’t a huge fan of sharing her life for the world to see, she keeps her head down, does her work and then pops up out of nowhere to claim first place. Samantha is generally a calm person, around horses she seems to have a never ending temper and a soft hand – this isn’t to say she can’t be angry and let it show but the occasion is rare that anyone see’s her anger. She rants about her frustrations in her head and almost never stops thinking and unless she is on a horse or doing homework her thoughts aren’t always exclusive to the present situation. Once you’ve broken past the somewhat stiff and sometimes awkward first impression one will learn that Sami is actually quite enjoyable. She loves a good laugh and has a killer smile, she is an excellent listener but isn’t always open to taking her turn in spilling out her deepest secrets. She is the friend that you can call at all hours of the day and she will sit and listen and offer her condolences or advice for hours on end. She is committed and loyal to those she chooses to let get close to her and will honour a friendship till the bitter end. Not a fan of confrontation Sami is however quite capable of holding a grudge and while it may not show on the outside, you might want to be careful as to how you treat the young woman. She puts up a strong simple front, though the young growing mind is quite uncertain of herself on the inside. She is facing a common issue of finding her true self, the balance between whom she has been and who she wants to be. Sami isn’t a victim of an identity crisis or anything; she isn’t a lost wondering soul she is just at a crossroads and trying to figure out where exactly she is going. Her personality is being tested in ways it hasn’t been before but she is coping well and staying true to her simple loyal tendencies that have done her well for the past years of her life. She is far from typical or stereotypical but Samantha is a 20 year old freshman who still isn’t certain what she wants from life – she is scatterbrained, makes the wrong choices, forgets important dates and sometimes struggles to meet deadlines. When it comes to her horses she is committed, focused and driven, always on time and never too tired. Is Samantha perfect? Far from it actually, but she isn’t a crazy psychopath either. She finds it easier to read and get along with horses and hates talking about herself but otherwise she is pretty close to the average friendly classmate you make small talk with while your professor mumbles in the background. Get to know her a little better and you have a pretty good friend for as long as you want.

history.
Sam was born into a riding family, the girl was born healthy and pas t her due date. Her parents weren’t going through the easiest of times but they loved each other and Samantha was well looked after and loved. Her mom took good care of her, was home lots and quite the mother despite being only 23. It was evident that horses had taught her parents the same love, passion and responsibility they would eventually teach Sam. Samantha went to the stable as soon as she was old enough, she hung out in the lounge with a great view of mom working horses Sam was paid so much attention at the barn, all the stable hands loved her and the environment was always welcoming – it was no wonder the girl would grow up to spend most of her time in a similar place. Grandma came some days too, though Sami was always a simple kid she was quite content to sit and watch the horses, she was certainly fascinated from a young age and it was no doubt her mother’s drive and passion she received – probably her touch too. About two years later her little sister Katherine or Kat was born when, Sam was too young to remember much but the girls have always gotten along. Both were sitting on horses as soon as it was safe, but a near tumble with Sam in the saddle took away those privileges till they were about six.
Samantha seemed to grow up at a rapid pace, she was the older sister but she has always been naturally more settled and quiet than her sister. She wouldn’t go so far as to say she was always more mature but the girl has a wise sense about her for a 20 year old and she did in general growing up as well. She started lessons and school at six and much preferred her riding to school but attended both with enthusiasm and effort. Her mom joined the American Jumpers team just after Kat was born, though as the girls grew and her mom trained they were a happy family, dad was home every night and the Griffins weren’t huge names yet but they were certainly climbing the ladder of success. They got to go see mom every two months when she was in heavy training, it was nice to see her and tell her all about riding and school. While kindergarten was supposed to be easy and Sam wasn’t having too many problems it was evident she was much stronger in the arts and languages than she was when it came to math and numbers. She loved to draw, listen and watch things and was picking up books before she knew how to read and making up her own stories to go along with them. In 2000 the whole Griffin family flew to Australia to watch their mom compete in the Olympics, even though she didn’t come out with a gold medal the family was very proud and very excited to see Natalie do so well. The event only inspired Sam even more to hope that one day she would at least half as good as her mom was.
After they came home from the Olympics dad left for work, he comes home to visit them every now and then but he needed to support the family. His promotion let the family move onto a broken down old farm the place needed work but the Griffins were more than ready. Sami didn’t want to go but she was promised a pony all to herself if they made the move without fuss, she was instantly silent and then went off to draw the pony she wanted. Samantha has done most of her growing up on the farm, the place has really come to life and held the slightly distanced family together. The girls have always gotten along pretty well and dad calls pretty much daily, he gets out to visit as much as he can. He watched the girls show online their whole lives, for Sam it has never been weird as it’s the only life she has ever really known. The farm started as something just for themselves, they had her moms gelding a pony for each of the girls and a couple extra horses sitting around that they were keeping and exercising for friends. The girls grew up around horses, Sam personally lived, breathed and loved them, she grew up showing with her mom she has always been pretty independent as far as horses goes, she tacks and grooms her own horses. She has been braiding for more than a few years now and pretty much spent every spare moment on the farm growing up. She has always struggle d with the math side of school, her grades were pretty average but she isn’t too concerned because she is convinced to make riding her career just like her mom has managed. The girl loves her little sister, it isn’t to say they don’t fight but they have grown up pretty closely and Sam likes to think they are pretty good friends, she has been there to protect Kat since day one. The farm has slowly filled up with horses over the past few years, the family started a lesson string with intentions of pulling in a few extra bucks off lessons and leases. The girls grew through horses and ponies, the horses generally passed from her mom to Sam and then to Kat, so the lesson string is full of well schooled and shown horses. Sami grew up in a privileged environment, she had horses and trainers at her fingertips so she was always set in the show ring. In the past few years her mind has begun to share focus on her studies as well, grades that didn’t matter to her all of a suddenly became very important to the girl as she realized that getting into a good university – one she wanted wasn’t going to be easy. While science and math were far from her strong point the girl buckled down, Friday night parties turned into study sessions and instead of watching all her friends classes at shows she spent extra time in the tutor’s tents. Samantha’s goals changed when she hit seventeen, she returned to the basics and showed her horses and perhaps one more if needed at shows. Sami stopped sneaking out for parties and was dumped her “boyfriend” of an insanely long 9 months in teenage world – at the time she was crushed but looking back Samantha is well aware that she is better off without him.
Her folks and everyone around her was shocked to say the least when she made the honour role at school and her teachers found new patience with the girl they had once despised for her lack of attendance, her absents went down and her marks went up. To say the change happened without loss or problems would be a lie, her friends from school and shows alike were surprised and a few even a little hurt when Sami suddenly became less dependable and the teenagers patience was certainly tested in the area of friends. There were a few nights the girl cried herself to sleep over texts and rumours that flew about her name and why she had been missing at all the “popular” scenes lately. The drama died down and Sami made the all important shift from just above the passing line to an honours student. Samantha wasn’t the top of her class and her good friends eventually laid off as they realized what exactly university would and wouldn’t do for them – assuming they had the marks to make it in the first place. A hard working young lady Samantha has managed to focus herself on the important things and was accepted to the first university of her choice, she knows there will be lots of boys to hang out with there so Trevor’s friend request on facebook and multiple texts have been ignored. All packed up and ready for university, or so she things Sami is leaving behind everything she knows and is actually excited about the change for once – it’s an adventure she is excited to start somewhat on her own.
riding history. Samantha was born into a horse loving family, her mom has ridden in two Olympic games and been riding competitively pretty much her whole life. Sami was first sat on a horse when she was just months old, held onto of course she was never in real harm’s way and she spent most of her days at the farm in the lounge watching her mom ride growing up. The older she got the more she was allowed to be around the horses and she loved every second of it, she even got to ride on the front of her mom’s saddle when she was about two. Though she was riding with mom one day and the horse threw a nice little buck, Sam was unharmed and wasn’t even scared but that was the end of that one. The girl was more than upset about it but her mom wasn’t concerned about anything except her safety, so Sam would have to wait till she was six to ride properly again. Samantha started lessons at six and took to it like a duck to water, she has always been a hunter rider and eq rider at heart – her moms love of jumping has started to rub off on her in her older years. Sam will ride and show jumpers and has in the past but she made her showing debut in the pony hunter ring at seven. She was always given quality and well schooled ponies who looked after her, the girl progressed at a rapid pace and showed small ponies at eight.
When they moved from Florida she was given her own large pony, Coco was a dark bay gelding who took the best care of Sami and led her to many pony finals and champions all over the circuit, he then went on to doing the same for her younger sister Kat before being retired and passing away peacefully at age 25. Samantha has run through ponies rapidly ever since, she leased a few more ponies and the family even had a few more of their own. One of her favourite ponies of all time was home bred, FS Dreamboat. The bay pony was a star from day one, Natalie broke him out and did most of the work on him then Sami showed him for a year and was champion large pony at finals for the last year before passing the pony onto her younger sister. Samantha got her first eq horse at 14, Billy was and always has been a gem – well kind of. He taught the girl to ride a real horse with real distinct buttons. She had her fair share of falls and he taught her well but when Sami was on her A game so was the horse, the pair managed to snatch the coveted Maclay Finals Championship position in Sami’s final year, they have many other great wins to their names but it was the last show they had together and probably will be the last time they ever compete at all. Billy has been semi retired due to arthritis and no-one on the farm really warmed up to him the way Sami did, he is exercised lightly daily and Sami hacks him whenever she is home. Sami’s other horse Coop is 12 now, they finished their last junior year with some fantastic titles. Samantha has shown her whole life, she is no stranger to the arena and has catch rode a time or two as well. The girl is looking forward to a new level of competition, some fresh faces and horses as well. She will miss her boys lots but is looking very forward to the lessons and horses to come – the more she learns the more Sami finds herself wanting more.

Her smile hadn’t seen the light of day so frequently till today, now in the Starbucks sitting across from a total stranger. She had even managed a bit of laughter and her mind was thinking about something besides how craptastic her life had turned out to be. All in all this Starbucks outing had been a success, even if she never saw the man again she could fairly say she had enjoyed the casual conversation and shared morning beverage. Chewing another almond silently she couldn’t help but blush lightly as he continued to comment and pressure on her beauty – the girl was used to people praising her elegance and beauty when it came to dance but just sitting before a stranger in her current state made her slightly more comfortable with herself. It wasn’t an awkward conversation, she just didn’t feel she needed to reply. It was pointless to argue with him as he seemed pretty set in his ways, he wanted to compliment her and she was going to let him – well just this time for now.
“Thanks, it was my father’s pick.”
She smiled, Cassandra. It was the truth, her father had been in love with the name and the second his baby was born a girl there was no other option. She was glad her father had worked on her mom so hard, she loved the name more than she loved herself some days – it was her own way of staying close to someone she only had memories of. His face was visible in photographs, and his laughter on video tape but it was his soul and his personality that was only visible from memories and not all of them good. For a brief moment she looked down to her own lap, letting her mind move away from painful thoughts she adjusted her hands in her lap before looking up still smiling despite her sudden blast from the past. Watching Lamb look over the paper she smiled, waiting nervously. Cassandra didn’t want him to be pressured into even reading her place, if it wasn’t right for him it was going to be a waste of both their time but in the off chance that it suited his needs she hoped he wouldn’t overlook or be afraid to ask her about it face to face – preferably sooner than later.
She watched him read the paper over, assuming he was looking to her handwriting as she would have done the same had the roles been reversed. Smiling as he looked up, his words shocked her a little but in a good way of course. He wanted to see the place which was a good thing, his timing wasn’t going to be perfect but she wouldn’t complain. Being a slight neat freak the place though not totally un-packed was clean. She hoped she would have time to limp to the bus stop and get there before he did – perhaps with a few moments to make sure everything was as clean as she wanted it to be, some of the walls were a little bare as most of her pictures were painful to look at right now but if it was going to help her bag a roommate she would most certainly be willing to look at them for a little. His mention of cats made her think for a moment, Cassandra loved animals – she really did but cats were known to claw things apart. Swallowing a small lump in her throat she decided that since her building allowed pets she would have to do the same and as long as she kept her bedroom door shut and the creatures had a scratching post her furniture would be saved.
“Yes that’s fine, I just need a bit of a head start as I have to catch the bus home before I can show you around.
Cat’s aren’t my favourite creatures but I have and will put up with them.”
She wasn’t going to lie, even if it jeopardized her “relationship” as a roommate with the man. She was being totally honest, she didn’t adore the felines like some people did but she wasn’t going to ban them from her property or sight. She would admit that they were a step above dogs when it came to being elegant and fancy on their feet but she wasn’t above envying them for being that way. The right dog would bring her to her knees to say hello – she had yet to encounter a cat that did the same but she wasn’t going to eliminate the option or idea.
