ABOUT LEVELS Please note that when an admin places your character into a level they are doing so by focusing on two areas. One: by what you wrote in your application. Two: going off how the IHSA really places competing students. The following is a very basic idea of how someone may be placed.
Walk/Trot – a student has been riding for less than one year, has not shown, and has not received lessons
Beginner Walk/Trot/Canter – A student has been riding for less than five years and has not shown, but has received lessons
Advanced Walk/Trot/Canter – A student has been riding for less than seven years, has limited showing experience (or has shown in another discipline), and has received lessons
Novice – A student has jumped, possibly shown in non-recognized shows, and has been riding for a good length of time while receiving lessons.
Intermediate – A student has jumped, shown in recognized shows for at least a short while, and has received lessons.
Open – A student has jumped, shown in recognized shows for a good while, can handle most horses, and has received lessons.
On this site there is no perk to being one level over another. All students get to lease or ride the same horses and all students get to show in four classes at every NCAA show. So there is no reason to complain. Just remember, stick around and you will point up quick!
