OWNING HORSESAt Rowanoak we highly suggest that characters under the age of twenty-three do not come onto the site owning a horse. We will not, however, say that they may not own a horse. If they do own a horse they will be placed in a level lower than they would normally be placed and will require twenty more points in order to point up (so, if your character would be an open level rider they would be placed in intermediate and then need 50 points instead of 30 in order to point up into open). Characters aged twenty-three to twenty-seven may come onto the site with one horse with no repercussions and anyone older may join the site with two horses. This is changed by pointing up via shows and is enforced to encourage realism. BOARDINGWe can't believe we have to say this, but people have proven to me that we must so here we go. All horses must be boarded at Ridgefield Stables, absolutely no exceptions. If you use the horse in role play, then they must be boarded at Ridgefield. We will accept none of this "horse currently living with character" stuff. What is the point of not boarding at the main stable in a stable role play? Besides that, very few characters on this site would be able to afford that, most likely. AGEThe horse’s age must be appropriate for their personality, experience, and accomplishments. We are generally looking for horses age seven or higher, but younger horses are allowed if they follow the above. A foal, either born or unborn, counts as a horse. Undergraduate students may not have a horse that is under the age of five. HEIGHTDaymi is half decent at guessing the heights of horses from their pictures, so please keep it within reason. If the horse you are using is 15.2 hh don’t say the horse is 17.2 hh because, well, anyone with half a brain can tell they aren’t. That being said, we will not be accepting horses higher than 17.1 hh unless they are draft or part draft or you can send us proof that the horse you are using in the picture is that tall, just because Daymi has a pet peeve about people thinking the taller the horse the better it is. Most horses are under 17 hands (yes, even the warmbloods and thoroughbreds), so keep most horses on the site under 17 hands. Pretty simple. APPLICATIONWhen applying please reply to your character thread with your character's horse application. GENDERStudents, both graduate and undergraduate, may not have a stallion. Any character under 21, student or not, may not own a stallion either. Stallions must have a reason to be kept intact. Each character may only have one stallion and must be accepted by the admin, just to keep the numbers down. PERSONALITYWe will not accept statements like “only Mary can control Snowflake”. Understood? All horses can be controlled by someone who knows horses. Beyond that, just make sure that the horse's history matches their personality. If the horse was beaten and abused (something we strongly discourage and may not accept), then they better not be all happy sunshine and accepting of all people being near them. ACTIVITYIf you become inactive the staff reserves the right to take your horse and use it as a stable horse. We will credit you for writing the application, of course. NAMESCheck out the naming rules for certain breeds here. CHANGESIf we ask for changes, just make them. Don’t sit there and complain about "knowing a real horse that..." because that just makes us mad. COLORKeep it realistic for the breed. We won’t be accepting brindle horses or any other color that is so rare people don’t know they exist. Why? Because it’s quite a mary sue thing to do. STUDENT HORSESAll student horses may be used by other students in either lessons or shows if the horse is safe. Permission of the owner will be requested and adhered too but if permission is not given it is generally not good for the student in question.
