dislikes. snotty people, neglect, abuse, indecisive people, winter
personality. Kiarra is relatively quiet around new people, or people she only just met. She doesn't socialize much with people other than her mentors and closest friends. If she feels like she knows someone, she will be more herself around them. However, if someone is acting like a snotty rich kid, Kiarra will easily get mad at them and start to tell them off. She especially hates when a person is neglectful towards their pets and will either tell them off, tell a person with more power than herself, intervine and take the animal, or some combination of the three. She is very outspoken when she wants to be. She is also very careful and hesitant around horses due to a past event. She tends to only watch at shows, and is often in the back row. She only works with the most calm of the school's horses, as she is much more frightened of the less predictable ones.

history. Kiarra was born in Montgomery County in Texas. Her parents own a small house in the Houston suburbs, and knew little about horses. Her mother signed Kiarra up for Girl Scouts when Kiarra started kindergarden. That summer, Kiarra went to her first girl scout camp. Because she was only six, Kiarra's first camp session was only two days long. The summer after that was her first week-long session.
Every summer after that, she would go back to camp.
When Kiarra was ten, her mother let her go to her uncle's ranch house, for the first time, for her cousin's birthday party. Kiarra and her mother stayed there for a week. Kiarra spent most of that time in the stables with the horses. Her mother noticed that Kiarra liked the ranch and decided that Kiarra could visit over the summer if she wanted to.
Kiarra started middle school the fall after the visit to her uncle's ranch. In sixth grade, she met a fellow horse lover named Emily in her introduction to art class. They also had the same lunch, so they would sit together at lunch every day. At that time, Kiarra was one who was happy with a few close friends. Kiarra told Emily about her uncle's ranch, and Emily told Kiarra about her oldest sister's ranch. Emily had three siblings, two older and one younger. The younger one was in third grade, while the older was in tenth.
The summer between sixth and seventh grades, Kiarra went back to her uncle's ranch. A late birthday present from her uncle was a mare named Scarlet. Scarlet had already been one of Kiarra's uncle's horses, but he had seen how well Kiarra worked with the mare.
In seventh grade, Kiarra was in a more advanced art class with Emily, who had the same science and lunch as Kiarra. That year, there was a new boy in a surprising number of Kiarra's classes. He also ended up with the locker next to hers. His name was Gabriel, and he became Kiarra's first crush. They started hanging out and ended up sitting next to each other in two of their shared classes.
In eighth grade, Kiarra and Gabriel started dating. They really only did movies and hanging out at each other's houses on weekends. After TAKS testing was over, they spent as much time together as they could. Gabriel was moving to England because his father was transferred. He had said he regretted it because the place they were moving to was too small to have a horse and that he would be separated from Kiarra. They ended the relationship on the last day of school that year.
In the middle of that summer, while Kiarra was staying at her uncle's ranch, her mother told her that she had been accepted into a boarding school for horse lovers. Kiarra had conflicted feelings about going. She would love a chance to go pro in shows, but she didn't want to leave her friend Emily. Emily was fine with it, and wished the best for her friend. Kiarra left at the end of the month.
Kiarra was accepted to boarding school, but as a scholarship student. Because of this, most of the student body treated her like a stereotypical cheerleeder would treat a person from a lower social class. She tended to avoid those people as much as possible, but confrontation was unavoidable. She managed to get away sometimes, and was saved by the bell often. Confrontations never resulted in much, mainly name-calling and such, and mostly by girls. The boys tended to avoid her, and when they couldn't they would either sneer or glare, with an occasional insult thrown Kiarra's way.
Kiarra managed to find a friend in her roommate and fellow schollarship student Akane, a Japanese girl named for her vibrant red hair. They were at the same level, age, and grade, so they had many classes together. Slowly, Akane began to fill the gap left by Kiarra's middle school friend Emily. They would try out for the show teams together every year, only making it once. They didn't bring back any trophies, though. With Akane's help, Kiarra was able to get past the insults and do her best.
At Akane's insistance, Kiarra applied to Rowanoak University. Akane planned to go back to Japan for college, but she supported Kiarra all the way. It was durring her last year of high school that she got her acceptance letter. When Kiarra and Akane parted ways, Akane promissed to write at least every other week, and Kiarra promissed the same. She got in on a schollarship combined with her uncle's help.
riding history. The summer Kiarra turned eight, she went to a week-long session about horses. She rode a horse for the first time on that Tuesday, and has been hooked ever since. Every year, she would go back to that camp and spend a week working with the horses. Because of her age, her choices were limited. However, she took the most advenced course she was allowed to every year. Her mother even took her out to get her own boots and helmet because the camp required helmets as a safety precaution. Her mom took her back to the store whenever Kiarra outgrew her boots and helmet.
When she was ten, Kiarra's mom took her to her uncle's ranch for the first time. Every summer after, Kiarra went there after camp, sometimes not going to camp to just go to the ranch. The summer after sixth grade, Kiarra's uncle gave Kiarra a mare named Scarlet.
The summer before freshman year of high school, Kiarra's mom told her she was accepted into a boarding school for horse lovers that was famous locally and across Conroe, where the school was at. She went there for all of her high school years.
Kiarra was grooming a younger mare in preparation to tack up and ride her one day when something spooked the mare. Kiarra had been cleaning the rear right hoof when the mare spooked and kicked suddenly with that leg. It hit Kiarra in the right shoulder, breaking the bones of the joint. The ambulance took her to the closest hospital, and the staff her to perform surgery on her shoulder to save the arm. She can still ride, but she is very hesitant even with the calmer horses. She has been afraid of most horses since. She recently went to a followup appointment and was told that she no longer needed her arm in a sling, but she still needs to be careful when around horses.

Kiarra quickly mounts her mare, Scarlet. She smiles and pets the mare with a hand before taking her reigns in the two-handed English style and taking the horse on a warmup around the ring. She walks the horse, then picks up to a trot with a simple click of her tongue. Kiarra nods to her cousin at the gate. He opens the gate and Kiarra clicks her tongue again. Scarlet picks up her pace to a canter and exits the arena. Kiarra pulls up on the reigns with a "Woah!" to slow Scarlet down to a walk. Kiarra aims Scarlet toward a trail that goes around her uncle's ranch. Kiarra smiles as her cousin Jennifer comes trotting up next to her, Jeniffer on her own gelding she called Dasher. Kiarra smiles at her cousin and waves before clicking her tongue again and gently nudging Scarlet with the heel of her boot, spurring Scarlet into a gallop. The two girls race their horses across the field to the fence dividing the horse and cow pastures. Jeniffer dismounts, then watches as Kiarra does the same.
"You used to have to use the fence to dismount," Jeniffer says with a smile. "Remember that?"
"Of course I do!" Kiarra says with a laugh. "That was my first summer down here! I still can't believe mom didn't start bringing me here earlier!" Kiarra brushes a strand of her dark red hair behind her ear. "Did I tell you I got accepted into Rowanoak University? They accepted me! I'm going to Rowanoak!" Kiarra laughs brightly.
"That's awesome!" Jeniffer says with a smile. "You deserve it, cousin. I mean, you haven't been riding consistantly until you turned ten. You've only been really riding for five, maybe six years. Yet you've been awesome in all of the local shows. So far, only the older riders have been able to beat you, even if the younger kids have more experiance. Cousin, you should take this chance. If you don't, you'll regret it."
"Yeah..." Kiarra says thoughtfully. "I'm gonna go there. It's really expensive but I'm sure uncle Haldiet won't mind helping me out. Especially since I've been the only one so far that managed to stay on Scarlet when she rears or bucks. I'm gonna do it!" Kiarra kisses her cousin on the cheek before mounting up again. "See you at dinner!" Kiarra calls just before she races off on Scarlet.
