SELECTIVITY
The main focus of Rowanoak University is riding ability; however this doesn't mean that academics aren't important. Students must have a high school diploma to be admitted into their undergraduate school and an undergraduate degree to be accepted into the graduate program. Students must have earned at least a 2.5 GPA in their previous school in order to be admitted, anything less will be turned away.
HOUSING
Freshman and sophomore undergraduate students must live in the dorms and have a room mate (or two). Single dorms will be handed out on a by-case basis and this will be done sparingly so it's best not to ask. Junior and senior undergraduate students may live in the dorms or the university apartments (only if they can afford it), but nowhere else. Students will only be allowed a single apartment on very special occasions. Students on a housing scholarship must live in the dorms all four years. All dorm rooms are one gender, apartments can be co-ed and dorm buildings are co-ed. If there are currently two dorms of one gender with empty spots in them, then you must choose to room with one of them. You may not take a room of your own.
Ex. Room 140 Mary Sue and _________ Room 540 Jane Doe and _________ Room 234 _______ and _________
You must choose to either live with Mary Sue or Jane Doe, not take room 234.
Graduate students may not live in dorms, but may live in university apartments. They do not have to, it is only an option.
The dorms are all suite style. This means two rooms share one bathroom. The bathroom has a shower and toilet, but no bathtub. Each room has a sink and vanity area, and each room is furnished with a bed, desk, small closet and dresser for each resident. You may bring in one small refrigerator and one microwave. Each resident may also have a toaster. No other warming device can be used. There is no stove or oven or dishwasher. Washing machines and dryers are located in the basement of each dorm building. The layout of apartments depend on the level of the apartment.
All undergraduate students who cannot afford to live in the dorms will receive a working scholarship to do so, which they must accept. This scholarship also holds them to living in the dorms all four years of their undergraduate degree.
ANIMALS
Only fish are allowed in all university housing, no other animals.
GRADES
Students must maintain a 2.75 GPA in order to keep their horse lease and be eligible to show. If a student’s GPA drops below 2.5 they may be expelled from school.
NCAA RIDING
All students are required to ride in NCAA shows in hunt seat. Their level (novice, intermediate or open) will be chosen at the time that their application is accepted by evidence of horse knowledge and the amount of time the student has been riding hunt seat. Students will get training in their chosen discipline as well as participate in hunt seat practices throughout the week. If the school doesn’t have a horse in your chosen discipline at your level you may request that they get a horse. If you drop below par in hunt seat the school reserves the right to take away your lease and all other discipline instruction until your hunt seat improves.
SUSPENSION AND EXPULSION
The school holds the right to suspend or expel any student at its sole discretion. While most reasons for suspension or expulsion are self-explanatory, one reason that students should be made aware of involves pregnancy. If any student, undergraduate or graduate, finds themselves pregnant the school has the right to expel them. As all students are required to be on the riding teams, and pregnancy would prevent riding, this rule is simply in place to keep all students on the riding team. Other reasons are fairly obvious, including grades and a sharp decline in riding ability.
