appearance. In simple terms, Matthew has a bit of the "All American Boy" kind of appearance. But let's not get in to stereotypes, shall we? Starting from the top, Matt has dark brown hair that he inherited from his mother. He keeps it a little shaggy, but not to the point where it gets in to his face. His bangs end at his eyebrows and both the sides and back are kept shorter. This type of cut is his preference, and serves the purpose of being efficient, easy to manage, and practical. He doesn't have to deal with hair obstructing his view, nor does he need to worry about styling his hair. Traveling down to his face, the first feature that one notices are Matt's thick eyebrows. They aren't huge and furry, mainly because he gets them trimmed when he gets his hair cut, but they aren't completely manicured either. Basically... he has normal eyebrows for a guy. Under those brows Matt's eyes are brown, a dark brown somewhat similar to his hair color.
As for the rest of him, Matt has a slender build with defined muscle tone. He isn't extremely buff, but it's apparent that he's no stranger to hard work. He's tall without being gangly and awkward, and his skin is a permanent tanned color. Matt wears clothes that are comfortable, opting for practical rather than what his peers seem to think is fashionable. The only times that he looks uncomfortable are when he's dressing up, or when he's in a situation that he's not too sure of (dress code wise).

Perhaps the first way to describe Matthew is to say that he's got an easy to be around kind of attitude. He's always the first one to offer a smile when he thinks that someone needs one, and there's no denying that his laugh and all around good mood is rather infectious. With such a friendly demeanor, it’s rather hard for others to feel depressed around him. And that’s how Matt prefers it. He likes to keep other people happy, and he's a people pleaser... however, he rarely opens up about his own problems for the very same reasons. Matt chooses his confidantes very carefully, and he's become even more careful since his brother left for school and seemed to cut off ties with their family. Now, when Matt is asked if anything is bugging him he'll just flash a smile and respond with "Nothing I can't handle". He's got typical teenager problems, but two of the biggest things that are plaguing him right now are his career choice (or lack of one) and his rocky sexuality. Although his family has never said anything negative about homosexuality, he's heard his brother and father making jokes and comments that were less than nice now and then. Right now he's a bit afraid to really tell anyone about how he feels, especially since he's not sure just what his sexuality is.
Although Matt went through a period of disliking his sister, he grew out of it and has sense become a bit of a protective big brother. Not only that, but when it comes to friends of his or anyone else that he feels needs some kind of help or protection, then he's there for them. It's almost to the extent of being a flaw. When he feels like he has failed at preventing harm from coming to someone, then Matt tends to become a bit withdrawn and depressed. He only really expresses these kind of feelings is when his sister, a close friend, or one of his animals are involved. He's a very passionate young man and he tries his hardest at everything that he does. Therefore when, or if, he fails at something he takes it a little harder than he should.
history
hometown. USA, Kentucky, Lexington
family. Jensen Christopher Grant {Father}. Matt's father worked hard to open up his own small business, which he runs from his garage and basement. He is a carpenter and while he gets decent business from people in town, Mr. Grant also builds a variety of furniture pieces in his free time. Matt looks up to his father, however he doesn't want to fully commit to being a carpenter just yet.
Theresa Estelle Grant {Mother}. Matt's mother is a veterinarian in Lexington, working in a decent sized animal hospital alongside a handful of other vets. Even though she works six days a week, Mrs. Grant has pretty regular hours and is sure to be home in time to eat dinner with her family. She puts family before work, and is very supportive of all of her children. Matt looks to her to give him advice when he feels himself at a crossroad.
Benjamin Arthur Grant {Brother}. Matt's older brother is twenty-five and spends as little time at home as possible. He goes to school out of state and is working towards becoming a lawyer. Matt looks up to his older brother, but he's kind of hurt that Ben doesn't come home often. He also isn't sure how Ben would react to what Matt wants to do with his life. While Ben is staying out of their father's business as well, he doesn't view riding as a "real" job.
Amy Johanna Grant {Sister}. Matt's younger sister is probably one of the most important people in his life. They share a love of riding, and Matt enjoys being around his sister because of her pure love for life. Amy has caught Matt's passion for riding and has since started jumping. She rides her own pony still, but hopes to someday advance to Matt's old horse.

history. Matt was born on January 14th, 1992 in Lexington. He was born in to an upper-middle class family consisting of a mother, father, and a six year old son. As soon as he was able to walk he was toddling after his brother, always wanting to see what Ben was doing or do it too. If he wasn't following Ben, then he was trying to mimic his Dad in his father's workshop. Matt remained a shadow to the males in his family until he was about six. At that point he began to shadow his mother, interested in her growing belly as well as feeling a bit upset that he would no longer be the youngest. He adapted well enough to being a big brother, feeling that he now had more in common with Ben, and he took little Amy under his wing. Matt liked helping his mother take care of Amy, and he felt proud of himself when he helped his little sister take her first steps (under strict observation by their parents, of course).
Matthew began school at six and his teachers never had bad comments to send home when it came time for parent/teacher conferences or report cards to go home. He liked school, but he liked watching his Dad working more. The boy was allowed to help a little, when possible, but most of the work was done by Mr. Grant as Matt looked on. When he wasn't watching his father, Matt was often trying to get his brother to let him participate in any activities that he was doing. Ben allowed his little brother to tag along now and then, but as he entered his teen years he wanted his freedom from his younger siblings. The teen worked with their father, but he often expressed feelings of dislike for the carpentry work.
When Matt was twelve, Ben graduated from high school and moved away from home to attend school in Massachusetts. Matt missed his brother, and he became a bit withdrawn when he realized that Ben didn't really want to come home when he had vacations. His phone calls didn't come very often, and Matthew slowly began to feel as if he had been abandoned by his brother. As a reaction he promised himself and his sister that he would never do that to her. He would never abandon his sister, or his family... not like Ben had.
At fourteen Matthew began to show an interest in riding. The main reason? A girl that he had a little crush on liked to ride, so he thought that if he took lessons too then he'd be able to talk to her more. He didn't plan on falling in love with the activity, or finding that he really enjoyed being around horses. His father allowed Matt to take lessons, and his mother loved that he was doing something on his own. Matt slowly advanced in his riding to include jumping, which eventually led to him looking in to ways that he could continue on with riding on a professional level. He had been doing well in the shows that he entered around the area and he found himself watching more and more competitions on tv than before.
Mrs. Grant noticed her son's new found passion, and she continued to support him in what he wanted to do. She bought him an older Appaloosa when he turned sixteen, after he had shown that he was indeed dedicated to riding. Matt entered jumping competitions on the horse, a gelding named Karma, and he continued to take lessons. He decided that he wanted to either go in to eventing, or maybe as far as being accepted by the Olympic team. Despite his dreams and desires to take riding to the top, Matt kept these thoughts from his father. Mr. Grant wanted his son to go to school for carpentry and join him in his business, unlike what Ben had done, and Matt didn't want to disappoint him.
Matt applied to Rowanoak University, convincing his father that he would be able to take carpentry classes there. Despite telling him that, Matt has no intention of joining his father's business. He wants to ride professionally, and to get a degree in Equine Sciences to further work with horses.
riding history. Matt began riding when he was fourteen. He took general equitation lessons, learning the basics of riding: rider's posture, basic care, grooming, tacking up, etc. He soon moved on to jumping, which in turn led him to his first competitions when he was fifteen. His mother bought him a horse for his sixteenth birthday, and he continued to show on the thirteen year old gelding that she bought for him. His interests lay mostly with show jumping and cross country, but he had also began to take dressage lessons when he was around eighteen so that he might get in to eventing.
